There is a lot of news and information about the Coronavirus (COVID-19). We still need to be careful, stay safe, and work through this together.

COVID-19 Update 4

All SECCA services are available and can be accessed from our West Perth office, Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm.

We are continuing to ensure the highest standard of cleaning and hygiene and following the WA Health Department guidelines.

We encourage all visitors to sign in with our QR code available at the front door of our office as well as maintaining social distancing and avoiding physical greetings.  Hand sanitizer is available throughout the office.

Our Cancellation Policy stands in full effect. All appointments require 24 hours notice to cancel or reschedule. Failure to do so will result in the full cost of the appointment being charged.

COVID-19 Update 3

All SECCA services are available, including face to face counselling, workshops and consultancy.

We understand this year has been difficult for many, and we are pleased to continue to support you safely.   We’re operating within the WA Health Department guidelines which includes maintaining a high level of hygiene in our practice and ensuring hand sanitiser is always available.


SECCA staff are encouraged to stay at home if they feel unwell, and we ask that clients do the same.

  • Please do not attend your appointment if you are feeling unwell.
  • Just call the office as soon as you are able and we will reschedule your appointment.
  • We have suspended our cancellation policy until 1st December 2020, which means you will not be charged for a late cancellation.

Taking Care

Please remember to take care of yourself and others:

  • Keep 2 metres away from others.
  • Don’t make unnecessary physical contact with others. Avoid physical greetings, such as handshakes, hugs and kisses.
  • Use tap and pay instead of cash.
  • Wash your hands regularly for at least 20 seconds with soap and water or an alcohol-based sanitiser.
  • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a flexed elbow or a tissue; if you use a tissue, dispose of it immediately and appropriately.

We’re thinking of you

We’re thinking of everyone at this challenging time, and we’re working on ways we can continue to support our valued clients.

SECCA Counselling Services

The Health Department has requested all disability service providers to maintain physical distancing measures. As such, our face-to-face counselling will resume only when we are advised it is safe for everyone. Meantime, we are offering counselling to current clients via phone and video call.

SECCA Consulting Services

We are still available for phone or video consultations. These are useful for colleagues working in disability services, or families and carers of people with a disability. You can contact us at to arrange an appointment.

SECCA Education Services

Our face-to-face workshops are naturally on-hold, and all registrants will be advised when this changes. We are delivering some training online, and continue to develop our great resources.

Take care of yourself

Try and do these six things every day

  1. Keep a schedule so you know how you will spend your day.
  2. Stay calm – take time to breathe and focus on the present moment. Find things to be grateful for.
  3. Move your body – dance around, do some yoga, or play with the dog.  Moving around will make you feel better in your mind and body.
  4. Do something helpful – in the house or garden. Keeping your space clean and tidy helps manage your mental health.
  5. Do something fun – play a game, create some art, watch a movie.
  6. Stay connected – with friends, family, and support workers. Talk on the phone or use or camera and hangout together.

Take care of others

Following the rules keeps everyone safe:

  1. Wash your hands frequently
  2. Keep a distance from others of 1.5m (6’) (except in the home)
  3. Stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary to go out.

COVID-19 Update 1

The health and safety of our clients, and our team is SECCA’s number one priority. We wanted to reach out and let you know the steps we are taking to manage our work with you over the coming weeks.

What our team is doing

  • We have postponed all face-to-face counselling for the coming fortnight, and will review appointments after that, as we go. Thank you to all our clients for working with us, to change appointments.
  • We are offering telephone counselling where appropriate, and our telephone consultancy service is still operational.
  • We are also able to offer counselling via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp or FaceTime also. Please liaise with your counsellor if this is something you are interested in.
  • We have cancelled our sexuality and relationships workshops for the next month, and will seek to offer these later in the year. We will let people who have registered know when new dates arise.
  • We are following all advice from the Department of Health regarding hygiene and safe interpersonal distance, inside and outside the office,
  • We are staying vigilant with advice from the Dept. of Health, to ensure we understand the latest recommendations for keeping clients and staff safe.
  • We are finalising our Pandemic Risk Management Plan with the Board of SECCA, and will be well placed to see this through and return to full service thereafter.
  • We have ensured our resources are available on our website, including the SECCA App which is free to use and can be useful to work with from home.

What you can do

  • As you will have learnt by now, controlling the spread of Coronavirus requires everyone to play their part.
  • Please follow official recommendations for staying healthy and safe. We really love the Every Australia Counts page for Coronavirus – it has links to great resources.
  • You can also keep checking the NDIS website for full advice and Easy Read information, and the Department of Health website.

Don’t forget

  • Reschedule any appointments with SECCA if you or anyone in your family is unwell or has been in contact with anyone who has been tested for COVID-19 (remembering that not all people experience symptoms); Note – you will not lose your place with us, we will just postpone your appointments until it is safe to meet again.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after coughing or blowing your nose.
  • Practice ‘social distancing’ which means staying at home when you are unwell and keeping a distance of 1.5 metres between you and other people whenever possible. More information can be found here.
  • Stay calm. It’s important we help our children and families stay calm and grounded, by role-modelling safe, sensible behaviour. Headspace has some useful tips to help young people handle stress at this time.
